Reproductive Medicine Laboratory - Management Team

The reproductive medicine laboratory is crucial to both diagnosis and treatment. Lives literally begin in our laboratory.

LaboratoryPatients entrust the task of creating their hoped-for children to our experts in the lab. We take this responsibility very seriously. Our Lab Management team is board-certified and accredited by the College of American Pathologists Reproductive Laboratory Accreditation Program.

In addition to maintaining the highest standards to assure optimal results in the safest setting possible, the laboratory team is responsible for staying informed about and skilled in emerging advanced technologies that will impact patients' care and their family-building goals.

From ICSI for fertilizing eggs with individual sperm cells, to PGD to help select the most viable embryos, our state-of-the-art laboratory provides virtually every service related to reproductive medicine, with outstanding results.

Kathryn J. Go, PhD
Scientific & Laboratory Director

Dr. Go joined the Reproductive Science Center in 2006 after serving as the director of the IVF Laboratory at Pennsylvania Hospital/Pennsylvania Reproductive Associates in Philadelphia, PA, for 21 years.

Dr. Go received her doctoral degree in molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry at the Medical College of Pennsylvania.

Board-certified as a high complexity laboratory director, Dr. Go has served two terms on the Executive Council of the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), was a member of the Reproductive Biology Resource Committee of SART and the College of American Pathologists, consultant to the ASRM Office of Government Affairs, Chair of the Reproductive Biology Professional Group of the ASRM, and was on the faculties of the University of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Go has an avid interest in assisted reproductive technologies and the pursuit and implementation of new techniques in the laboratory to improve patient outcomes, and is the author of articles on quality control and clinical findings, as well as reviews on novel research areas in reproductive biology.

Jay Patel

Jay Patel, B.S., M.S., T.S., has been the Manager and Supervisor of the Embryology Laboratory since 2005. Jay earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts, and is certified by the American Board of Bioanalysts as a Technical Supervisor in Andrology and Embryology. Jay’s leadership and commitment to excellence are driving forces in the laboratory’s optimal performance.

Nicole Acevedo

Nicole earned her B.S. in animal and poultry sciences and M.S. in reproductive physiology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and her Ph.D. in molecular and integrative physiology from the University of Michigan. Her longstanding interest in gamete biology inspired her entering the field of clinical embryology. Nicole is bilingual, in English and Spanish.

John Carranza

John was a biology major and exercise science minor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and brought an array of laboratory experience to his work at RSC. John has experience in analytical chemistry as well as hormone assays and determinations, and has worked in both industrial and hospital settings. John is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Meghan Connerney

Meg earned her Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry from Westfield State College. Meg’s background of working in the biology laboratories during her undergraduate years was a solid foundation for preparing her for her work as a clinical embryologist.

Donna Cunningham

Donna Cunningham brings 19 years of experience and expertise as a clinical embryologist to RSC and is a pillar of this laboratory, having been with RSC from its inception. Donna earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Medical Technology and is certified as a Technical Supervisor in Embryology and Andrology by the American Board of Bioanalysts, and during her long and continuous tenure at RSC, has overseen the introduction and implementation of all the innovative and state-of-the-art techniques of assisted reproduction into the laboratory. Her mentorship of the embryologists has been essential to its mission of excellence in patient care and to her infusing them with her passion for this field.

May Fung

May earned her Bachelor’s of Science in biology with a concentration in biochemistry at Emmanuel College, and brings many years of experience as a clinical embryologist to RSC, having entered the field of in vitro fertilization in 1988. May is bilingual in English and Chinese, and was an interpreter during her college career.

Bhavini Patel

Bhavini earned her B.S. in chemistry at South Gujarat University. After working as a chemist specializing in the design and formulation of adhesives, Bhavini entered the field of clinical embryology where her laboratory skills have found new focus.

Danielle Sheehan

Danielle earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts and spent one year at University College in Cork, Ireland studying reproductive physiology. Currently enrolled in the Masters of Clinical Embryology and Andrology at the Jones Institute of the Eastern Virginia Medical School, Danielle has recently become certified as a Technical ProgramSupervisor in embryology and andrology by the American Board of Bioanalysts.

Hui-Zhong Yin

Hui-Zhong graduated from the Qingdao Medical School and his interests and skills as a surgeon and urologist in urology and andrology led him to clinical embryology and his joining our team in 1999. Hui-Zhong’s experience is distinguished, having founded the first andrology clinic and laboratory in China for male infertility. Hui-Zhong is bilingual in English and Chinese.
